Last But Not Least: Day Twenty-Two

Bildschirmfoto 2016-06-26 um 14.12.03

Our last day. I was wearing my favourite dress today, and it’s now damp and rumpled; a bit like we are. A bit tired and a bit ready to go home, and a bit sad-looking because we’re not ready to say good-bye. Not to those red doubledecker buses, not to the tea, not to the bookshops. Not to each other.

But, my friend, I have loved being on an adventure with you, loved it so much I wished it would never end. But I think you’re fast asleep, and it’s only another three minutes until tomorrow, and this diary is all that’s left of today. A bunch of words that fail to describe a feeling. Like trying to catch a beam of sunlight.

But, friend, I think we caught it.

So let’s just start again.

Shit I Bought in London

Last week I was fortunate enough to visit London again. I went with my gorgeous friend Anna who you can find on her blog: www.tinytrinket.wordpress.com. It‘s a lovely little internet niche and you should totes have a look!

DSC08807

Because we have both visited England‘s capital a bunch of times we did hardly any sightseeing. Instead we drank lots of tea, ate cupcakes, went for strolls and got stuck in the shops. I‘m not much of a shopper when it comes to clothes, shoes and handbags. So when Anna tried on coats and blouses I checked out Primark‘s sock section; we went inside Topshop three times, but to even things out I dragged Anna to the Disney Store. So, as you can guess, most of the stuff I bought is utterly useless and unnecessary – but I just felt the physical need to stuff my suitcase with all the overpriced rubbish I could possibly find. Not. Regretting. Anything.

Princess Leia Mug

I can‘t even begin to tell you just how excited I am about this mug! I mean, just look at the buns! Aren‘t they fabulous?!

Giant Crumpets

I also bought regular ones, of course, but I could not resist the temptation of one massive chunk of happiness!

The Iron Trial (by Cassandra Clare & Holly Black)

IMG_20160221_150842

It was raining and we found shelter inside a Waterstones store, and oops-a-daisy I ended up buying a shitty YA Harry Potter rip-off with a romance twist, and I‘m really looking forward to reading it!

Harry Potter Jandals

Looking back, I seriously can‘t remember why I bought these. I suppose I saw them and just held on to them without even checking the size.

Postcards

Did I mention my love for crumpets? And check out this hamster, he‘s a real hero!

William & Kate Mug

20160221_151248

Strictly speaking this is some Shit-I-bought-in-Brighton-last-summer item, but it‘s terrible enough to get a mention here. I pretty much just scanned all the souvenir shops for the most dreadful mug and then bought it for myself. I greatly enjoy drinking out of it, though. It gives me a sensation of roalty.

Socks

20160221_150635

I have this very weird obsession with socks. I buy socks whenever I‘m bored because I have to wait for a train or someone is late meeting me. At least they keep my feet warm, so they are not completely useless.

Rapunzel Plush Doll

20160221_151120

Another weird thing I do is collect plushy Disney Princess dolls. Basically, everytime someone I know goes somewhere they have a Disney Store they have to bring me back one of these dolls.

Aluminium Foil

There are cats on this foil. Sandwiches will never taste the same again!

Hummingbird Bakery Cupcake

DSC08832

I am a massive fan of the Hummingbird Bakery. I own two of their books, they make beautiful cupcakes and cakes and all other sorts of edible things. So naturally, when we passed one of their stores I had to go inside and treat myself. I bought their Blackbottom Cupcake which, technically, was absolutely delicious. But because we‘d just had a big lunch fifteen minutes before I was still stuffed. So for a day and a half I carried around a half eaten cupcake in the hope to eventually finishing it. Which I did, but by that time it was squashed.

I‘m going to end this list here, mainly because I do not want to appear like some weirdo who can‘t control herself. But also because I‘m stuck with the flu and looking at a screen for too long makes me all dizzy. I hope everyone‘s been having a lovely weekend!

Lots of love from the roots of my heart!

Ps. I ALMOST FORGOT! Remember how I went to Hannover a little while ago? Well, Inga made a small video (because she is that awesome) and that‘s my sole reason for creating a Youtube channel, so if you have three minutes to spare have a look at it!

Last But Not Least: Day Three

Bild 15

London has entire streets dedicated to all sorts of bookshops. There’s one dedicated to witchcraft and one sells hand signed first editions of Charles Dickens and one has a café in the midst of paper and ink. The tour guide called it Diagon Alley and I will stick to that (even though it is really called Cecile’s Street).

Oxford Street always makes me a hypocrate. Because I hate that people just shop to shop without needing anything that they buy, but I am one of them and I love commercialism. I bought so much and I needed nothing, and I won’t admit that it felt good.

Last But Not Least: Day Two

Bild 3

I have never seen the sun shine in London before. To me, it has always been a place lost in time. A grey sky over grey asphalt and grey castles. With just a touch of glistening magic. But today the sun shone and I wore a summer dress and I burnt the tip of my nose and the sweat made my knickers stick uncomfortably to my bum. The sun makes London such a real place. All the people wearing hot pants when they should, well, wear anything but them! All the litter on the street illuminated, all that dust in the air, the graffiti on the walls. I have never noticed before that underneath the magical surface London is a real place.

We ran down Primrose Hill facing the Skyline and we crossed the Tower Bridge looking down on all the ant-like people. Primrose Bakery makes the best cupcakes in the world, and mine was extra delicious. And then we sat on the roof again and watched the sun set. I listened to the sound of the train and from above the wild traffic was just a distant, far off noise. As the light came to a close even the dirt seemed romantic.

Last But Not Least: Day One

Bild 26

London is a blur. I arrived, and it wasn‘t on Platform 9 3/4, and it wasn‘t magical. Just the crowded station of St. Pancras; anouncements, suitcases being pushed and pulled past me, a child crying, two lovers hugging, the music coming from some shop. I circled the top floor of the station and I circled the lower floor and when I was completely lost in my circle, Inga finally found me. She is very good at finding me (I should ask her how she does it, because I keep losing myself).

It‘s good to be nibbling at a Waggon Wheel at midnight in a stranger‘s kitchen when your thoughts slowly turn into dreams.

Noemí & Inga Take England

Hello everyone!

It’s 2 am but tomorrow it’s back to work, so I really want to get this post online before the sun rises! I haven’t been very active on my blog for the past month or so, because I was having the most fabulous time travelling the UK. Guys, your country is gorgeous! Get it? GORGEOUS!

I wrote something small about each of the 22 days in my diary and I’m going to share these thoughts with you over the next couple of weeks in a series called Last But Not Least. I hope that you’re going to enjoy this little project of mine! There’ll be stories of chocolate orgies and ancient castles and adventures in Hogwarts, and a boy even.

For now, though, I’ll just leave a couple of uneditted pictures for you to gape at!

Sexy Books: The Mime Order

Just read: The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon.
First of all, can we just appreciate how immensly talented Samantha Shannon is? Going through her bio, I can’t help but feel like I’ve accomplished absolutely nothing! Her first novel, The Bone Season, came out in 2013 and it has already been translated into 28 languages, is on various bestseller lists, was named “Book of the year” by a number of websites and magazines and film rights have already been sold. Oh, and she’s only a year older than me. This just left my mouth wide open for a day and a night. And another day. And another night.
I still haven’t been able to close it.

20150206_130609

The Mime Order is AMAZING! I was not able to close it at all. Even during dinner I had to keep it next to me so I could touch it. I’m weird like that.
It’s the sequel to The Bone Season. After Paige has escaped the colony of Sheol I she gathers up her life as Jaxon Hall’s mollisher in the underground of London again, trying to figure out how to stop the Rephaim, a foreign species from the Netherworld, from taking over the human world.
Paige is a brilliant protagonist, very strong and cool, a revolutionary – but she’s also sort of lovable and has a soft spot for the people she loves. The entire story is so thrilling and full of adrenaline, making even the reader feel somewhat breatless after what Paige goes through. And oh, the love story! There’s not even much of one, but the few pages you do get it, it’s entrancing!

Just look at the way she writes, isn’t it beautiful? And yes, sorry if there’s minor spoilers in here!

20150206_130730

Samantha Shannon, thank you so much for writing this absolutely brilliant piece of work! I’m still so awestruck, I just want everyone else to read it, too!

Lots of love!
